The Search Console Audit • Specialty 4 of 14

Google sends every dealer a free, daily report of exactly what is wrong with their site. Most dealers have never opened it.

Google Search Console tracks indexing errors, mobile usability problems, manual actions, security issues, and core web vital regressions. We pull the report, translate it into plain English, and tell you which findings to act on first.

What an unread Search Console is costing you

GSC is the only place Google tells you directly what it thinks of your site. Ignoring it means missing the warnings that precede every traffic drop.

Search Console flags problems weeks before they show up in your traffic dashboard. Indexing coverage drops, mobile usability errors after a template change, schema validation failures, manual actions for spammy content, security issues from a compromised plugin. Every one of these signals exists in GSC. Most dealers find out about them from a traffic drop instead.

Beyond the alerts, GSC contains the only first-party data on which queries actually drive traffic to your site, which pages rank for what, and where you are losing impressions to competitors. Use the slider to estimate how much organic visibility you might be flying blind on.

What nobody has told you

"Most dealer agencies have GSC access. Most do not log in unless something is on fire."

"The default GSC email digest only fires on critical errors. The slow-bleed warnings, like impression drops on key queries, never trigger an alert."

"GSC verification gets lost during platform migrations. Sixteen months of historical data become inaccessible overnight if verification breaks."

"Your platform vendor probably has GSC access on your account. They almost certainly do not share what they see with you."

The five failures we find on almost every dealer site

On most dealer sites in this area, you almost certainly have at least three of these.

HIGH

GSC not verified or verification lost

Without a verified GSC property, you have zero visibility into how Google sees your site. Verification can break silently after platform migrations, DNS changes, or HTML head template updates.

How we fix it: Re-verify via DNS TXT record (most resilient method). Verify both the domain property and any URL-prefix properties. Confirm at least 16 months of data is accessible.

HIGH

Indexing coverage errors ignored

GSC reports excluded URLs by reason: 'crawled but not indexed,' 'discovered but not crawled,' 'duplicate without canonical.' On dealer sites, these often number in the thousands and represent significant missed organic opportunity.

How we fix it: Triage by category. Fix canonical issues first. Address thin content. Submit fixed URLs for re-crawl in batches.

HIGH

Manual actions not detected

Manual actions are penalties applied by a human reviewer for guideline violations. They can drop a site by 50 percent or more overnight. They surface only in GSC.

How we fix it: Check Manual Actions tab on every audit. If present, document the violation, remediate, and submit reconsideration request.

MEDIUM

Mobile usability errors after template changes

Tap targets too close, viewport not set, content wider than screen. These errors surge after platform updates and are invisible without GSC. Mobile traffic suffers proportionally.

How we fix it: Fix template-level issues. Validate via the Mobile Usability tool. Confirm zero errors before declaring resolved.

MEDIUM

Core Web Vitals regression alerts ignored

GSC tracks CWV at the page-group level over a 28-day window. Regressions show up here weeks before they hit traffic. Most dealers do not check.

How we fix it: Set up email alerts on CWV. Triage by URL pattern (VDPs, SRPs, content). Address worst offenders first.

HIGH

Sitemap submission gap

GSC will tell you exactly which sitemaps it has fetched, when, and how many URLs were processed. If a sitemap is missing or stale, GSC says so.

How we fix it: Cross-reference submitted sitemaps with what your platform actually generates. Submit any missing sub-sitemaps. Verify last-fetched within 7 days.

LOW

Top queries and pages never reviewed

GSC's Performance report is the only first-party source for which queries drive traffic to your site. Without monthly review, you cannot identify content opportunities, brand-defense gaps, or query-level CTR problems.

How we fix it: Monthly performance review. Identify queries with high impressions and low CTR. Optimize titles and snippets accordingly.

02

IMPLEMENTATION (OPTIONAL)

We do the work

What the data says.

Less than 30%

of dealers we audit can produce a GSC export covering the last 90 days. The rest do not have access, or never log in.

16 months

Maximum historical data window in GSC. Lose verification and you lose access to all of it.

Free

Search Console is the most valuable free SEO tool Google offers. It also has the lowest dealer adoption rate of any of them.

What a fully-read GSC report unlocks

A Ford store recovered 17 percent of organic traffic in 6 weeks by acting on GSC alerts.

A Ford dealer's organic traffic had been slowly declining for six months. The agency blamed 'algorithm changes.' We pulled GSC and found 1,247 URLs in the coverage report excluded as 'crawled but not indexed,' a sitemap that had not been fetched in 143 days, and 31 mobile usability errors introduced by a CSS update three months prior.

We re-submitted the sitemap, fixed the mobile usability template error, and addressed the top canonical issues driving the coverage exclusions. We did not write new content, build links, or change anything outside what GSC was already telling us was wrong.

Six weeks later, organic sessions were up 17 percent over the prior month. Indexed page count had recovered. The mobile errors were resolved. Total agency time invested: under 12 hours.

Search Console Audit-specific questions dealers ask.

Answered straight.

Do I have a Search Console account?

Almost certainly. Either your platform vendor, agency, or someone on your team set one up at some point. The audit helps you find it.

What if I do not have access?

We help you regain access. Verification can be done via DNS TXT record without involving the previous administrator.

Is GSC the same as Google Analytics?

No. GA tracks user behavior on your site. GSC tracks how Google sees your site. You need both. They show different things.

How often should I review GSC?

Coverage and errors: weekly. Performance report: monthly. Major reports (CWV, schema): on every quarterly review.

What about Bing Webmaster Tools?

Bing has its own version of GSC. We audit it as part of the engagement when you have material Bing organic traffic, which most dealers do not.

Can the audit run if my GSC verification is broken?

The free scan reports what is publicly visible. The full audit includes re-verifying GSC and pulling authenticated data.

Does GSC show me my competitors' rankings?

No. GSC is first-party only. For competitive ranking data, we use third-party tools alongside GSC.

How long does the free scan take?

Thirty seconds. Full GSC report inside 7 days after you grant access.

Find out what Google has been telling you that nobody on your team has read.

30 seconds. We pull what is public and tell you what to look for once you grant access.
