The Tracking Audit • Specialty 9 of 13
Most dealer GA4 and ad accounts are double-counting some leads, missing others, and attributing the rest to the wrong source.
We audit GA4 events, GTM tag stack, Enhanced Conversions, Offline Conversion Import, and CRM-to-ads loop. The layer that determines whether every other decision you make is informed or guesswork.
Why tracking is the audit upstream of every other decision
If your GA4 says 200 leads and your CRM says 280, every campaign decision built on either number is wrong by some unknown amount.
Tracking debt accumulates silently. A vendor adds a tag, another vendor adds a duplicate, a third vendor swaps out a script. Six months later your conversion counts are off by 30 percent and nobody knows in which direction.
The fix is a one-time consolidation, not an ongoing cost. The benefit is every other decision suddenly being made on real numbers. Dealers who fix this typically discover their best-performing channel is not what they thought.
What nobody has told you
"Your agency probably runs reports out of the ad platform, not GA4. The numbers do not match. Nobody reconciles them."
"Your CRM-to-ads loop (Offline Conversion Import or Enhanced Conversions for Leads) probably is not configured. Without it, your ad platforms are optimizing on form fills, not on actual sales."
"You may have multiple analytics scripts firing simultaneously (Universal Analytics holdover + GA4 + a third-party platform). Each counts the same event differently."
"You might have clean tracking. You might have a mess. The container audit takes minutes and reveals everything."
The five failures we find on almost every dealer site
On most dealer sites in this area, you almost certainly have at least three of these.
Duplicate analytics implementations
GA4 + Universal Analytics + a third-party platform analytics all firing on the same events. Each reports different numbers; your team has stopped trusting any of them.
How we fix it: Consolidate to GA4 as system of record, archive UA, configure third-party as derived view.
Enhanced Conversions not enabled
Without Enhanced Conversions, Google Ads loses cookie-deprecated signal and bid optimization degrades. Most dealer accounts have not enabled it.
How we fix it: Enhanced Conversions for Leads, hashed PII passthrough from form to ad platform.
No Offline Conversion Import
Without OCI, Google Ads optimizes on form fills, not actual sales. The result is bidding hardest on the leads that look qualified but do not close.
How we fix it: CRM-to-Ads pipeline, sale event ingest, gclid capture and storage on lead, automated upload.
Phone call tracking misconfigured
Call tracking lines pointing to wrong destinations, after-hours routing failures, or call events not firing in GA4. Calls are often the highest-converting channel; mis-tracking them kills decisioning.
How we fix it: Call tracking audit, validate routing, fire call events to GA4 with duration and source attribution.
GTM container bloat with no documentation
GTM containers with 60+ tags, no naming convention, no change log. New team members cannot tell what fires when or why.
How we fix it: Container audit, naming convention deployment, archive unused tags, document trigger logic.

What happens when you fix it
Fixing this is not a website redesign. It is a series of specific, surgical changes.

DIAGNOSIS
We give you the report
48 hours. Every finding, ranked by impact and effort, with platform-specific instructions for your CMS. You can hand it to your web vendor and they can implement most of it.
02
IMPLEMENTATION (OPTIONAL)
We do the work
If your vendor cannot or will not, we install the fixes ourselves. Most live in Google Tag Manager, the head of the page, or as a CDN-level configuration. Live in 7 to 14 days.
03
VERIFICATION
We re-run the scan
30 days after the fixes go live, we re-run the audit and confirm the lift. Site Health Score increase, category-level pass, downstream impact verified.
What the data says.
Decisioning gap
between platform-reported and CRM-reported leads is commonly 15–40 percent on dealer accounts we audit.
OCI
is the single highest-leverage fix. Bidding on actual sales instead of form fills changes ad allocation meaningfully.
Tag bloat
compounds quietly. Most dealer GTM containers have 30+ tags; many have no documentation.
The Proof
How a Nissan group reallocated 18 percent of paid budget after one OCI fix.
A Nissan dealer group with three rooftops was running ~$70K/month in Google Ads. Their CRM showed 380 sales/month attributed to digital; Google Ads reported 510 conversions. Nobody could reconcile the gap.
We deployed Offline Conversion Import with gclid capture, enabled Enhanced Conversions for Leads, and consolidated to GA4 as system of record.
Within 60 days, Google Ads optimization shifted spend toward the campaigns producing actual sales rather than form fills. 18 percent of the budget reallocated. Cost per actual sale dropped 14 percent. Form-fill volume held steady; sale volume rose.

Tracking Audit-specific questions dealers ask.
Answered straight.
Will this require code changes on the site?
Most fixes happen in GTM and platform settings, not in site code. Some require small dataLayer pushes that can be added via tag manager.
Does this work with my CRM?
Yes for major dealer CRMs. We push sale events via API or SFTP depending on what the CRM supports.
Will this affect my agency's reporting?
Yes, positively. Their reports become reconcilable to the CRM. Most agencies welcome this.
What about iOS and cookie deprecation?
Enhanced Conversions and server-side tagging are the primary mitigations. We deploy both.
How long does the fix take?
Diagnostic in 48 hours. Full implementation typically 2–3 weeks including QA and ad-platform validation.
Is this GDPR / CCPA compliant?
Yes when implemented with proper consent management. We audit your CMP as part of the fix.
What platforms do you support?
All major ad platforms (Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok) and dealer CRMs.
While we are at it
Tracking Audit is rarely the only thing wrong. Three areas dealers usually pair with this one.
The Conversion Audit
VDP form friction, click-to-call gaps, broken trade-in flows. We score the path from ad click to lead and find the leaks.
Read the detailsThe Speed Audit
Core Web Vitals, third-party tag bloat, render-blocking CSS. Slow sites burn ad budget and convert worse. We measure and fix.
Read the detailsThe Domain Audit
HTTPS, redirects, DNS hygiene, SSL chain, domain age signals. The boring stuff that silently throttles everything else.
